A fever is a good thing… and it can be a child’s best friend.

A fever is not itself a disease. Instead it is the body’s natural ability to help combat and overcome disease.
Fevers are evidence that the immune system is hard at work and is really a healthy response to an invader.
MYTH: Always give anti-fever medication for fever.
FACT: According to studies at the University of Maryland 1978-87 quelling a fever can actually prolong the illness. I this study for influenza those who did not take fever medication, their symptoms lasted 5.3 days. In those who took anti-fever drugs , their flu symptoms lasted for 8.8 days.
A fever not repressed by paracetamol or similar anti-fever medication will more rapidly defend the body and bring lifelong immunity or significant protection to most childhood diseases.
MYTH: Fevers damage the brain.
FACT: Unless the child is in a hot place or is overdressed the brain’s thermostat will stop the fever at around 40degrees centregrade. Fevers below 42..2 degrees C do not damage the brain. Once the child gets the chills and the sweats,…the fever has peaked and the body is cooling down.

So a fever is really good for your child; it is natures way of killing off the invader. (THE EXCEPTION is a child under 3 months with a fever of 38 degrees or over. In this instance medical intervention is needed.)

You have a body but you are not just a body
The body responds to messages sent from the mind… the mind controls the body.
You are.
• Your thoughts, anxious thoughts can cause, blotches, perspiration, with happy thoughts your lips smile, you laugh.
• Your beliefs about yourself and the rest of the world. Fearful beliefs, can freeze your body, or make you jump, or block you from doing something.
• What you eat. Too much sugary foods can make you restless, irritable, too many carbohydrates, can cause your body to become fat or lethargic.
• How you move? Do you just plod along, is life a drag, or do you bounce through your day?
• What you do. Do you act on your decisions, and work out ways to improve your life?

So, when your doctor or therapist gives you a prognosis about your condition, whether its is a physical condition or the chances of conceiving a baby, they do this when they refer to group statistics from clinical trials or from their own clinical experience.

However they are NOT able to predict the outcome for an individual patient.
You are not a statistic. You are the sum of your beliefs.

The outcome of any prognosis can be greatly improved or changed due to what you believe you can overcome, or achieve…you can nurture your body with healthy foods and thoughts, and use that information to love and nurture yourself. What do you believe?

For children an integral part of play is imagining and pretending, and so for most children an altered hypnotic state of consciousness is familiar, comfortable and easy to achieve. Children respond well to hypnosis, because the Subconscious part of the mind understands stories and imaginings.

In therapy the child is encouraged to feel comfortable and safe, and is Ok for the parent to be in the room if that is what the child wants. The child is encouraged to feel safe to speak about feelings and what he wants to change or feel better about.
The subconscious mind is generally very obliging once it knows what is needed.
Hypnosis is not something that is done to a child, it is something that the child does to and for himself, or allows to happen when he has set the goal he wants to achieve.

The therapist using stories (metaphors) related to the child’s issue, and allowing the child to use imaginings to resolve their problem, is successful in dealing with: anxiety, fears, phobias, bed wetting, nail biting, thumb sucking to name a few.
Once the child is seven years old and is able to sit still and listen and participate in stories…then he/she is able to benefit from Hypnosis. A younger child will benefit from “Sleep Talk”, a simple method that the parent learns and uses at home.

Vitamin D (Calciferol) The Sunlight Vitamin

Your body makes it naturally when exposed to sunlight.
It does this by activating a form of Cholesterol which is present in the skin and converts it to vitamin D.
The body’s daily requirement of 400IU can be met by sufficient exposure to sunlight.
Vitamin D regulates mineral and vitamin metabolism, especially Calcium & Phosphorus required for the integrity of bones & teeth.
It is best described as a Pre-Hormone and involved in the production of Calcitriol, Oestrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone, Insulin, Thyroid & Adrenal hormones.

So why is it that so many blood tests indicate a Vitamin D deficiency?

What does that say about our lifestyle?
Are we indoors too much?
Do we cover up too much?
Has the fear of skin cancer and “slip slop slap” sun-block campaign made us afraid to let the sun shine on our bodies.

Daylight is so good for our general well being, it lifts our moods, and improves our immunity.
So go for a walk….. and let the morning sun be on your body…make your own vitamin D. That daily dose of gentle sunlight is going to make you feel better.

Hypnosis helps to encourage that giving birth is, and should be, a natural, calm, joyful, relaxing, and even comfortable experience. A woman’s uterus has two important types of muscles that facilitate the process of birth.
When a mother is in a calm and relaxed state, these two sets of muscles work together in unison; the long muscles shortening and applying rhythmic waves of pressure, while the relaxed circular muscles allow the progressive opening of the cervix. When in a state of relaxation, the body’s natural labour activity signals the brain to release endorphins that produce a natural analgesia or pain reducing effect. Studies show that natural endorphins can be up to 200 times more affective in reducing pain than the drug morphine. Endorphins also cause and sustain a feeling of peace and relaxation. A mother using the skills developed under hypnosis, together with the verbal and tactile cues of their partner, will experience a calm, comfortable and joyful birthing experience.

Anxiety can be best defined as what we imagine will happen in the future concerning an event or situation. It is essentially a learned anticipatory response. For people to exert themselves fully and to pursue various goals, whether sporting, academic or creative, it is necessary for them to experience some degree of anticipation.
However, each of us has an optimal level of anticipation for any given situation, and when it rises to high, it inhibits rather than assists our performance or achievement of our goal.So one of the major reasons for using hypnosis is to improve your self esteem and confidence. If you truly believe in your own abilities, you will find it much easier to persuade other people of those abilities. Feeling good about yourself has a valuable affect in many areas of life, from improving your relationships with colleagues or those of a personal nature to achieving goals in every area of life.
Hypnosis may be used to increase your confidence and your self acceptance by asking you to imagine yourself standing tall, seeing, being and believing who you really are. Hypnotic suggestions can help you to re-program your subconscious mind and replace any past negative programming. Through positive suggestions given during hypnosis you can begin to see yourself as confident and become certain of your own abilities and talents.
